A Fabulous Fall in Calhoun and Gordon County

The leaves are transforming from green to red, yellow, and orange. We know what that means; fall is finally here! Along with fall comes a whole host of fun activities that you must wait until this time of year to enjoy. Take a little break from the hustle and bustle of school and work by bringing your family to experience a beautiful North Georgia fall in Gordon County.

1. Farm Tours

Nothing says fall like a weekend at the farm! A giant corn maze, pumpkin cannon, pony rides, hayrides, and so much more can be found at Copper Creek Farm in Calhoun. Every Friday and Saturday in October, your family can spend the entire day exploring and playing together! While you’re in town, you can also pick up locally sourced foods from the Payne Farm & Produce Farmers Market. This pick-your-own produce farm also hosts family fun weekends in October.

2. Hiking

The best way to take in the changing leaves is by hiking through the beautiful forests of Northwest Georgia. See the trees before they shed their leaves for the winter at the Land of the Pinhoti Trail and Keown Falls, “The Pocket,” in the Chattahoochee National Forest. This is the perfect place to camp, hike, bird watch, and see the leaves and other gorgeous scenery.

3. Carter’s Lake and New Echota

Take your leaf viewing to the next level by spending an entire weekend out in the woods or on the water with your family! Set up camp near Carters Lake which features 62 miles of shoreline, the highest earth-filled dam east of the Mississippi, picnic areas, nature trails, and even playgrounds for your little ones.

Another benefit of being in North Georgia during the fall months is that it’s still warm enough for outdoor activities! The New Echota Rivers Alliance hosts guided paddle trips from March through November. And for a glimpse into the history of the Cherokee Nation, visit New Echota Cherokee Capital State Historic Site in Calhoun. Heritage Day on November 11th, 2017 is a must-attend event!

4. Downtown Calhoun and Pintage Antique Market

Wrap up your fall season by supporting small businesses in Downtown Calhoun and Gordon County. The Sunday before Thanksgiving, Downtown Calhoun kicks-off the holiday season with the annual Merchants Open House. Shoppers come from all over visit to explore the goodies at Pintage Antique Market, one of the best places in the state to find unique gifts and home furnishings. You’ll certainly find gifts for everyone–even yourself!!

5. Entertainment and Dining

Entertainment at the theatre is never in short supply in Gordon County. Explore the gorgeous and historic GEM Theatre in downtown Calhoun, walk through the art gallery and the festival of trees at the Harris Arts Center, or catch Calhoun Little Theatre’s shows. Whether it’s comedy, country music, or holiday-themed productions, you are sure to find something you love! Don’t miss all of Calhoun’s wonderful restaurants, or the upcoming Food Truck Festival! The festival will take place on November 2nd, 2017 in downtown Calhoun.
